Class #22 "The Treatise on Making Things Equal"
Reading: Zhuangzi, pp. 13-22
The second chapter of the Zhuangzi, "The Treatise on Making Things Equal," is often regarded as the core of the text. It may also be the single most difficult piece of early Chinese prose to understand and translate. In class, I will begin by offering an overall framework for understanding it, but this will be meaningful only if you have read through the text with attention to identify the issues that are its core concerns.
